Relief from a tomb
The provenance of this painted relief fragment with the portrait of a man is unknown, but it might have decorated one of the interior walls of an Old Kingdom tomb probably in the Memphite necropolis. The figure rising only a few millimetres from the wall-face was made with the bas relief technique, which was commonly used in the Old Kingdom. The relief was elaborately carved, fashioned like a sculpture and painted with strong colours.
